The original author is supposed to be an authority on the subject who is capable of expressing his ideas in his own language. Generally, scientific subjects fall under category of specialized or expert knowledge and in its presentation ideas are more prominent. The chain of ideas may represent the depth of the content. That is why the understanding of an idea will require understanding the previous and subsequent ideas. Otherwise, it may lead to ambiguity. Therefore, just as it is the responsibility of the author or the translator to present the previous ideas similarly some understanding of the same is expected from the reader as well. Since the style is not an important factor in scientific writing, the personal informations regarding the original author may not be relevant. As a result, the translation is restricted to its content only. But for the translator, it is essential to keep in view the level of understanding the subject matter interest and linguistic competence of the reader. If the level of understanding of the reader is not upto the mark some brief background / information of the translated text must be given by the translator. Language of the translated text should be unambiguous and presentation should be methodical.

     From the practical point of view, the basic problems of the translation of the scientific texts can be categorized as follows:

ORIGINAL-- 'Research is being done to the issues of the animals

belonging to the same species.'

TRANSLATION- 'Samaan spisiyon ke jantuon ke Ootakon par shodh

-karya kiya ja raha hai' (Hindi).

Comments -- In this example the translator has misunderstood the word 'species' as plural because of final 's' and hence translated as such. This sentence can be translated as;
