423.13.2.1 : DOCUMENT - TYPES
The above diagram suggests that the area of Commerce is quite vast and it naturally contains all sorts of documents. Only a few of them are discussed here -
  1. Trade covers all sorts of stationary documents maintained in selling and purchasing goods - Indent, Invoices, Bill of Exchange, Sale Book, Cash book are a few to mention.
  2. Banking documents are Demand Draft, Letter of Credit, Cash book, Withdrawal Slip, etc.
  3. Transportation documents consists of shiping Bill, Bill of Landing, Railway receipt, etc.
  4. Warehouses have there own share of documents. Bill of entry and Mate's receipt are a few of them.
 
Taking all these different types of commercial documents together, we notice that there are three important documents used in sale processes and they are as follows:
  1. Invoice
  2. Credit Note
  3. Debit Note
In what follows, we will concentrate on these document-types.
 
423.13.2.2 : INVOICE
INVOICE has the following characteristics:
  - it is a written document prepared by a seller.
  - details of quality, kind, price etc of goods.
  - indication of payable price to the buyer.
