The above diagram suggests that the area of Commerce is quite vast and it naturally contains all sorts of documents. Only a few of them are discussed here - |
- Trade covers all sorts of stationary documents maintained in selling and purchasing goods - Indent, Invoices, Bill of Exchange, Sale Book, Cash book are a few to mention.
- Banking documents are Demand Draft, Letter of Credit, Cash book, Withdrawal Slip, etc.
- Transportation documents consists of shiping Bill, Bill of Landing, Railway receipt, etc.
- Warehouses have there own share of documents. Bill of entry and Mate's receipt are a few of them.

| Taking all these different types of commercial documents together, we notice that there are three important documents used in sale processes and they are as follows: |
- Invoice
- Credit Note
- Debit Note

| INVOICE has the following characteristics: |

- it is a written document prepared by a seller. |
| |
- details of quality, kind, price etc of goods. |
| |
- indication of payable price to the buyer. |
