423.12.6.4 : DISCUSSIONS
     These problems of translation of minute is based on the minutes of 14 th TOLIC committee, Calicut. Here are a few examples to explain our point.

     English "In his address Shri Ravi informed that Hindi typing classes are being conducted in his office successfully".

     Hindi "apne vaktavya ke kram m? shrii ravii ne yah suucanaa dii ki hindii TankaN prashikshaN kii kakshaa? safaltapuurwak sancaalit kii jaa rahii ha i".

     The above Hindi translation takes the liberty to add some information and same time loose some of it when one states: "apne vaktavya ke kram men". Notice that one looses "his office" at the same time. Both tendencies are harmful for translation.

     Another example is of terminology which at times creates a hindrance in the flow of information.

     "kuch sadasyõ ne yah sandeh vyakt kiyaa ki sadasya kaaryaalay kis pracaar parivyay abhaarit karenge".
     In fact it was a simple statement.

     How the expenditure on his account should be borne which can be very well replaced by "parivyay wahan karenge" which will make the text more meaningful to the reader.

 
      Again the use of inappropriate terms is seen in this example:
      "In the concluding speech -------------- for attending the meeting".
      "apne samaapan bhaaSanN m? antaraal goSTii m? upasthit hone".

The use of "antaraal" is unnecessary because English doesn't have that word in the text and it seems to be because of an interference of mother tongue of the translator. The same translator has used antaraal for 'duration' elsewhere in a letter which we have already discussed. (See Hindi Typist Training Course letter issued for its members).
