423.11.3 TRANSLATION OF BANKING LITERATURE
423.11.3.1 TYPES OF BANKING LITERATURE |
| |
Banking literature is divided into three types according to its content - |
| |
| 1. |
General purpose material - forms of various types, circulars, letters, note, contract, notification, etc. |
| |
|
| 2. |
Various types of Commission reports, rules, etc. |
| |
|
| 3. |
Technical literature, Mannuals, Legal documents, etc. |
|
| |
The problems with translation are due to (a) lack of knowledge of the subject, (b) haste in translation process, (c) lack of reference literature, (d) lack of training, (e) translator's or reviser's laziness, etc. |
| |
| As you know a number of Hindi translators or Hindi officers in Banks are literary persons, at times with very little knowledge of the Banking procedure which leads to their selection of a term randomly from dictionary and creating faulty expressions such as the following - |
| |
This amount has been posted |
| yah raaSi post kar dii gaii hE |
|
| |
Because in above reference "posting" is for "entering" so "darz karaanaa" would have been appropriate translation. |
| |
| The problem of sentence construction i.e, comprehension, style etc. This should be according to the nature of Hindi language but usually a translator is influenced by English language as listed (Tiwari, Dvivedi; 1988) below: |
| |
| 1. |
sandarbh hamaare paas honewaalaa aapkaa ------------- |
| |
|
| 2. |
hamaare dwaaraa wivarNiyõ kaa prakramaN maSiin se sukar banaane ke uddeSya se |
| |
|
| 3. |
unke dwaaraa prastut is wiSayak pramaaN patra iske saath lOTaayaa jaa rahaa hE |
| |
|
| (The relative certificates produced by him / her is returned herewith for onward transaction to one staff member) |
|
| |
The above Hindi sentences bear clear traces of influence of English language. As said earlier in Hindi you find small and short sentences whereas in English complex and long sentences are very common. Hindi sentences may also be complex sometimes but such sentential expressions are devoid of influence of English. |
