413.4.4: SUMMARY
 
The compilation of a dictionary, especially the collection of materials for a dictionary is a complex and difficult task. For the proper collection of material planning is necessary. The sources and the methods of collection of materials differ from dictionary to dictionary. The lexicographer must know from where to collect his materials and how to collect them. For written languages, the materials are collected from written texts, whereas for unwritten language is more difficult because of the lack of script and written literature. The lexicographer has to depend entirely on the informants and collect the necessary materials from their speech. There are some problems, especially in the collection of materials from an unwritten languages. To solve those problem, the lexicographer must be very careful and work hard. He has to extract a large number of contexts to determine the meaning of such words. Since patience pays in lexicon-making, if the lexicographer wants to succeed, he should work patiently and systematically. Only then can one collect good enough materials and compile a standard dictionary.
