Six-language translator

The Seiko Company has invented a six-language translator. It contains over 200,000 words and phrase translations, stores over 160 names, numbers or addresses and has a travel alarm. Its backlit display makes viewing data easy, even in dim light. It includes world time of 32 cities, calculator and 25 currency and metric converters. It is ideal for home, office, school or travel. The languages include English, Spanish, French, German, Italian and Portuguese. (Approx $ 39.95)

A new Translation Studies Institute has kicked off in Banglore with effect from April 2002.

Registered under the Karnataka Society's act, it has the following objectives:

  1. To cater to the need of all those who require translation services.
  2. To provide assistance to professional translators by way of providing infrastructure facilities and passing on the translation jobs received by the Institute.
  3. To provide financial assistance to professional and amateur translators and students of translation by way of donation, loans, scholarships, prizes, awards etc;
  4. To provide the service of authentication and certification for the translations executed.
  5. To establish standards and norms in Translation.
  6. To impart training and education in the field of translation.
  7. To organize Seminars / Training Courses / Workshops / Annual Conventions related to Translation

Institute of Translation Studies is planning to provide THE following facilities to translators:

  1. Provide access to various tools required by translators such as dictionaries, encyclopedias, machine translation facilities etc;
  2. Conduct conferences to discuss various aspects of translators
  3. To provide the service of checking and authenticating
  4. To promote the interests of the Translators in various forms and take up their cause with several Governmental and non-Governmental bodies.
  5. To procure translation jobs from various bodies to the translators
  6. To impart education and training for aspiring translators.

Institute of Translation Studies invites all translators and others to be on their panel of Resource Persons. Resource Persons would be able to take part in the activities of Institute of Translation Studies.

ELIGIBILITY:

Persons who have been working in the field of translation are eligible for being on the Panel of Resource persons of Institute of Translation Studies.
